TYPES OF CARPET PILE
One of the important factors for determining which type of carpet you want to install in your home is the type of carpet pile you prefer.
There are three types of carpet pile popular for homes. This first type is cut pile, then there is loop pile and a mixture of cut and loop pile.
ABOUT CUT PILE CARPET
A cut pile carpet is created when the manufacturers cut the fiber loops to create even, upright strands across the surface of the carpet. The end result is often a more luxurious look than you will find with loop pile carpet. We recommend carpet pile as the best carpet for pets.
There are three types of cut pile carpet to choose from:
CARPET PILE PLUSH
This type of carpet is sometimes called “velvet” or velour carpet and has an upright and formal appearance. The fibers will reveal traffic and vacuum imprints and the pile is semi twisted and relatively short compared to other cut pile carpet.
CUT PILE TWIST
This carpet pile has a textured finish over the surface that suits heavier traffic areas and conceals footprints and wear. The twists also conceal shading and create a luxurious feel overall.
Frieze carpet has a “shaggy” appearance that isn’t as formal as other types of cut pile. The fibers branch out from the backing in different directions and provide a very deep texture. You can purchase thick and thin frieze carpet.
Frieze carpet is very durable and one of the most popular choices for carpeting in a family home.
ABOUT LOOP PILE CARPET
Loop pile is the opposite of cut pile in that the fiber loops are left intact. The loops are either even across the surface of the floor or manufactured at different heights and lengths to create different textures and patterns.
There are three types of loop pile carpet to choose from:
LEVEL LOOP PILE
A level loop pile carpet features a uniform height across the surface of the floor. This results in an extremely durable cut of carpet that conceals footprints and heavy traffic.
MULTILEVEL LOOP PILE
This type of loop pile carpet features various heights of looped fibers and strands across the surface. This is also a very durable carpet style. The varied levels of fibers can result in appealing textures and patterns to enhance the style of the carpet.
The primary characteristic of sisal carpet is that it is cut in straight rows of looped strands of carpet fibers. Various heights create different textures and patterns on sisal carpet.
ABOUT CUT & LOOP PILE CARPET
This type of carpet combines both cut pile and loop pile for distinct patterns and textures across the surface of a carpet. This can create several intriguing visual effects and patterns for a very stylish flooring choice in your home.
